Gamers could save the world

Before I saw this I was reminded of a stat I read in possibly the NYT that claimed some chunk of Gamer types are the types to go for stuff like AmiriCorps and the reserves.

Re: [EXTERNAL] Gamers could save the world

Parks, Raymond
And then there's the gamers like me - who play the game to figure out how the artifacts of computers and software can be exploited to beat the game.  For instance, I've pretty much figured out how to beat Morrowind using the potion-making mechanics that allow virtually unlimited increases in stats that can then be leveraged for money (to buy good stuff) and skill-learning (because high stats make skill rolls nearly automatic to advance skills).  This is classic munchkinism or power-gamer behavior.

This is close to what I do professionally - I figure out how to make a system that includes an information/computer component do what I want rather than what the developer intended.

The other half of what I do is put myself in the role of real adversaries to figure out whether they could and would do the attacks I think up.  This is role-playing, which I have been doing since I started playing D&D White Box edition in 1974.

Balancing the destructive power-gamer/munchkin with the deep immersion role-player is the true nature of red-teaming.
