Subject: [sfx: Discuss] London’s bus network to benefit from Wi-Fi and open data (Wired UK)
Londoners will soon have access to Wi-Fi via the bus network, according to Kulveer Ranger, Director of Environment and Digital London.
The move would be part of the Mayor Boris Johnson's drive to improve connectivity in the capital. In May 2010 he made the remarkable pledge to the Google Zeitgeist audience that "every lamp post and every bus stop will one day very soon, and before the 2012 Olympics, be Wi-Fi enabled."
While it might be unlikely that every lamp post will be Wi-Fi enabled within 12 months -- there are more than 15,000 of them in the borough of Barking and Dagenham alone -- Ranger confirmed that the wheels are very much in motion to ensure that the bus network is connected.....
