Fwd: iClarified - Apple News - Your iPhone Can Be Hacked With a Malicious Charger

Love it!  You can hack a phone via its charger!

In this presentation, we demonstrate how an iOS device can be compromised within one minute of being plugged into a malicious charger. We first examine Apple’s existing security mechanisms to protect against arbitrary software installation, then describe how USB capabilities can be leveraged to bypass these defense mechanisms. To ensure persistence of the resulting infection, we show how an attacker can hide their software in the same way Apple hides its own built-in applications.

Re: Fwd: iClarified - Apple News - Your iPhone Can Be Hacked With a Malicious Charger

I've had at least one iPhone USB charge cord which supported charging but not Sync.  I don't know how easy they are to obtain intentionally.  With WiFi sync, it seems one might never use a "Sync" cord again?

Dedicate a charge cord to charging (not syncing), disable all pins except USB power, and don't share needles, even with friends?

I recently loaned one of my charge cords to a stranger (there we go, sharing needles) and it seems conceiveable that even what was fit into a cube usb charger might be scaled to fit into the body of the iPhone end-plug?  I could have (maybe) compromised him, he could (more difficult to install on the fly in my worn/dirty cord undetectibly) have compromised me

You can never be careful enough, but you can be too careful!
