The ComScore quarterly report on phone market makes an interesting comparison, distinguishing between "OEM" (Phone manufacturer) and "Platform" (i.e. OS)

Apple actually is both, and it the top mfgr. Android is increasing but Apple is #2. The market is clearly becoming dominated by Android, showing google's strategy is working. The question is whether Apple's is also working: having a 39% of both categories.
Its not clear why Apple is doing well, other than being there first with what was considered quite a break through. My guess that, coupled with inertia/lockin keeps them at that high a level. If they do, as reported, start having two iPhones, one considerably cheaper, then they may continue their place in the race. I believe they clearly make more money than the others.
