Line2 is a "wifi carrier" for cell phones. Weird? Here's the Line2 demo by David Pogue:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BS0MrLXQbk.. and a NYT piece:
http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/07/13/line2-phone-app-gets-even-better/He thinks it could be a real game changer. It was still early days when he made the video .. it may have changed for the better by now.
Bottom line: WiFi in the house and for international w/ your cell phone is a great idea. Finally no problems with coverage at home. It also can use your cellular service when needed.
Oh, and you don't need a cell phone. Works with iPod too!
Downside is two phone numbers.
Basically we're seeing a "wifi carrier" for cellular. The cost is very reasonable, $10/mo or $50/6mo ($100/yr). Many users are down-sizing their cell phones to the cheapest possible (low minutes/text, edge data) then using Line2 for most calls and broadband.
