Fwd: New issue of Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation, vol. 12(4)

Robert Holmes
This issue of JASSS contains a number of "State of the Union" papers. Nick, Owen - how about a Wedtech to discuss "A Survey of Agent-Based Modeling Practices (January 1998 to July 2008)"? We should probably make it a BYOB event so that we can drown our sorrows afterwards though... ;-)

The Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation (http://jasss.soc.surrey.ac.uk) published issue 4 of Volume 12 on 31 October 2009.

JASSS is an electronic, refereed journal devoted to the exploration and understanding of social processes by means of computer simulation.   It is freely available, with no subscription.
=================

In this issue, Marco Janssen reviews and attempts a replication of the well-known model of the fate of the Anasazi in the Long House Valley, Arizona.  Julian Padget and colleagues describe a re-implementation of Kauffman's NK model.  And Andrew Crooks and colleagues re-implement Schelling's segregation model, but in the virtual world, Second Life.

Two articles examine the history and development of agent-based modelling, by examining the content of social simulation papers and by analysing their patterns of citation.

In addition to the regular research articles, this issue includes a special section on the Methodology of Simulation Models, edited by Andreas Pyka and Claudia Werker.  The section includes five papers on methodology from an economics modelling perspective.

The issue also includes reviews of 11 books that will be of interest to those involved in social simulation.
