For the code-jockey crowd.

But if you *haven’t* heard about the fellowships … they’re amazing! You get to spend 10 months working with newsroom technology teams to write open-source code, analyze and visualize data, and explore some of the toughest problems in journalism. Fellows also get to travel the world to teach, learn, and speak with other people interested in journalism, code, data, and design. Here are the newsrooms we’ll be working with in 2016:
Fellows receive a $60,000 stipend, plus benefits ( http://opennews.org/what/fellowships/info/ ), to support their work during the year. The OpenNews team and the fellowship community work with them throughout the year. There’s no particular programming language or development background required to apply, just experience with code and an interest in journalism. This is an inclusive program,
and we’re absolutely seeking fellows who reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. The application itself ( http://opennews.org/what/fellowships/apply ) is very quick: five questions, no brain-teasers, no recommendations to track down. If you’re interested, we’d love to hear from you. If you know someone else who should apply, please pass this information along! Or let me know and I’m happy to reach out to them myself. Applications for the Knight-Mozilla Fellowship are open until next Friday, August 21. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me directly. Thanks, Ryan Pitts
