Funding for start-ups

Gorges, Susan (N-Strategic Business Solutions)
I guess the key word is "large".  There are strategic partners (PNM and Intel) with funding monies.  There are tech maturation funds within the LANL organization.  The best news for NM is the new VC firms who have set up offices here and the efforts by two different groups to organize the angels throughout the state.

Funding is an issue.  LA has used large utilities like Southern Cal
Edison to partner the effort.  Any large utilities or other like and
interested funders in the area?  There may also be national laboratory
technology transfer money and related funds to support such efforts.
Anything happening in this area?

Technology Ventures Corporation holds an Equity Symposium each May in
ABQ and each September in California.  The 2004 event will be TVC's 11th
annual in NM.  It takes hundreds of hours to organize the event itself,
thousands of hours to find and coach the presenters and approximately
$100K to run a professional event up to the standards of Venture Capital
firms.  TVC is happy to organize this event as a way to find funding
sources for our companies.

If you are interested in applying to be a presenter, please contact
myself, Susan J. Gorges, at 473-7011.

Why not do the same in Santa Fe?

I have to admit to planning an "escape" if things get too bad here.  I
keep my passport up to date and seriously consider where I'd like to
live .. where are the creative hot spots.  So far for me its europe,
and in particular, Italy although I think most of europe is fine.

I think the pendulum is going to swing away from the US far faster than
people believe.  Consider just how fast it has taken the good jobs to
migrate away from the US.  And europe is working on university synergy
projects that reduce the overhead of maintaining universities and
designing multi-country research projects.

A recent scare for me was CBS refusing to air a simple 30 seconds ad
against the mounting deficit:

This was going to be on the superbowl half-time show but was censored.
I'm worried.

My 2?.
