Jon,
I found https://link.springer.com/content/pdf/10.1007%2F978-3-319-29716-3.pdf on the Springer List. A collection of chapters on the "evolution of disease" written for clinicians. Looks like it might be worth the time, if one had the time for it to be worth. Nick,
It does look like a good read, though your reminder is a good one. I wish there were a decent app for predicting the value xyz information will be to me, how well it will synergize with other experiences. OTOH, I know I would get bored if my path were known to me. Dissenting opinion here. I dislike paper books. That said, PDF, i.e. preformatted content, only looks good on large screens like computer displays or large tablets. On Tue, Jun 16, 2020 at 12:49 PM <[hidden email]> wrote:

I remember a great line from the 90s on the topic: "you can't grep paper!" Unfortunately I prefer physical books/paper for most circumstances and uses. It is *great*, however that I have at my fingertips a huge collection of electronic documents formatted (usually) professionally, both online and downloaded. Riches beyond my imagination 20-30 years ago. On 6/16/20 1:55 PM, Gary Schiltz wrote:

I rather hate to admit it, but a good part of my preference for electronic versions of information these days is highly related to my lack of good reading glasses, which is in turn related to my laziness when it comes to getting out to buy some. Here in EC, I can't just go to the drug store to buy cheapies, I would have to actually go to an optometrist (5 hour round trip), get an exam, go back a week later, and pick them up. With e-books, I can just change to a bigger font and/or zoom. Plus, I can read in the dark. On Tue, Jun 16, 2020 at 3:31 PM Steve Smith <[hidden email]> wrote:

ebooks are great, especially the epub format, which is far superior to
pdf. I carry 2-300 books on my iPhone. Easy to read in bed, too. Too bad the Springer site does not make everything available in epub format. For textbooks or other explanatory text, having the extra real estate is handy for next to the computer. My screens are full all the time with other stuff.

Agreed. Also texts with explanatory photos and/or illustrations which
you want to see full-sized. But relatively little of my reading is in that category.
