Free 32-bit flat-bed scanner

Bruce Abell-2
FRIAMers--

I have an older but perfectly good Epson Perfection 1650 flatbed scanner with a transparency/negative adapter. The only problem: It requires 32-bit software (won't work with 64-bit), and my computers are now 64-bit. It could be used with Vuescan software, which costs a little bit to get a version that doesn't imprint watermarks on the scanned images. OR, if you have a system with a 32-bit OS, it'll work like a charm. I've converted many negatives and slides to jpegs, copied photographic prints, and scanned documents of all sizes and shapes (manually, alas) and used OCR to make them editable. And it'll act as a copier by sending an image directly to your printer.

Free to a good home. Also free to a bad home. Send me an email if you're interested.

Re: Free 32-bit flat-bed scanner

I would be interested (sorry to send this on-list, but at least it is FriAm rather than WedTech :P -- I thought people might be vaguely mollified by any information in the following link), it looks like there are drivers for GNU/Linux systems:
I can come into town to pick it up.

However, perhaps it would be best to wait; perhaps someone needs it more than I, since I have a scanner (which is broken but may be simple to fix) with a higher resolution in one direction (2400dpi vs 1600) and a larger bed (9" x ~12" rather than 8.5" x 11.7") than the scanner you are offering (so it would be wasteful to have the Epson [and have to make a similar post giving it away somewhere later] if I fix my HP), according to these specs.
