Goooooooooooooooooood morning FRIAM! For long-term use. do we have any current best practices about face Shields vs masks.? just about every place that's come up that's at least somewhat reputable. doesn't seem to actually have long-term best practices much less studies.Asking because I have noticed at some point after wearing some cloth masks I had started getting weird breathing stuff and I'm just kidding tickling in the back of my throat for example. and just from personal experience just but any place that I've come across that needs people to wear some form of long-term protection. Lake dental offices or even though the Radiology lab that I was just at. the staff was using face Shields over masks. so basically being curious I thought why not ask if anyone knows what the long-term and actual safety difference is between the two. My personal knee-jer reaction is that a official seems like it might almost work as well. Simply because you physically cover more of your face. - .... . -..-. . -. -.. -..-. .. ... -..-. .... . .-. . Gill, Here is my take. If you check the DHS master list, you will find that the state of play with respect to the transmission of the virus by teensy bits of spit and by big globs. Masks do pretty well to keep big globs out of your nose and mouth, but provide no protection for eyes. Indeed, if you are still a person who absent-mindedly moves your hand from mask to eyes, for some reason, they provide little protection at all – to you, although they still are a powerfull public health device. Face shields not only protect your eyes, they keep you hands away from your face, so protect you, and direct your breath downward on to your self, and so protect others against big globs. With teensy bits, all of this is less sure. But there is a lot of doubt about how many teensy bits you need to get at once to catch the disease, so anything that thins out the teensy bits is probably a good thing.
