Leigh Tesfatsion posted a self-study for RePast on SIMSOC. It looks like a
nice complement to Owen's RePast tutorial (which Leigh references). -Steve ____________________________________________________ http://www.redfish.com [hidden email] 624 Agua Fria Street office: (505)995-0206 Santa Fe, NM 87501 mobile: (505)577-5828 -----Original Message----- From: Leigh Tesfatsion [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Tuesday, June 22, 2004 3:41 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: RePast Study Guide (resource site) 22 June 2004 Dear SimSoc Mailing List Participants: I thought some of you might be interested in a self-study guide I have prepared for a RePast Study Group I have organized at Iowa State University for this summer. As indicated in the attached introductory paragraphs from this guide (see below), RePast is a Java-based toolkit for agent-based modelling and graphical visualization developed and maintained by David Sallach and other researchers at the University of Chicago and the Argonne National Laboratory. RePast has been specifically designed for complex systems comprising multiple interacting agents with learning capabilities. The RePast Study Guide is accessible at http://www.econ.iastate.edu/tesfatsi/repastsg.htm Any comments you might have on this guide (e.g., suggestions for additional materials) would be most welcome. Best wishes, Leigh xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPHS FROM THE REPAST STUDY GUIDE: RePast is a Java-based toolkit for agent-based modelling and graphical visualization developed and maintained by David Sallach and other researchers at the University of Chicago and the Argonne National Laboratory. RePast has been specifically designed for complex systems comprising multiple interacting agents with learning capabilities. RePast permits the systematic study of complex system behaviors through controlled and replicable computational experiments. The RePast Study Group is an informal summer support group (not a course!) for those wishing to undertake a study of the RePast toolkit. The primary reason for organizing the group is to help participants obtain some facility with RePast through readings, hands-on experience with RePast demos, and simple programming exercises. The objective is to determine the degree to which RePast provides a useful and user-friendly agent-based modelling tool for economics and related fields. This site provides links to readings, discussion materials, software, and other resources of potential use to RePast Study Group participants. Although some prior programming experience is desirable, it is not presumed. I. Introduction I.A What is a Complex Adaptive System (CAS)? I.B What is Agent-Based Computational Economics (ACE)? II.
