HI Nick et al - Sorry I screwed up that post. I was referring to the
near impossibility of providing scientific or academic expertise to
projects designed to further some corporate object or other without
cooption, because the corporation is not interested in the (supposed)
aim of the scientist--the increase of knowledge for its own sake, but
only the increase of profits, preferably immediate profits but at
whatever remove or whatever cost, profits. The anthropologist, whose
subject matter is human beings--generally in some social context--is at
particular peril of having his investigations used to manipulate his
subjects into buying something they don't need, often for more than
they can afford to pay, The corporate employer has no other agenda.
