Stephen, you committed a "Freudian slip" now in your
hopes for a "happending" to this debate, I'm afraid
it's just begun.
Kind of funny that this basically decent article
appears on a site dedicated to debunking the
Paranormal.

In my scientific fumblings, I used to believe that
living organisms had some kind of magic version of
"Maxwell's Demon" allowing them to create
"order for free".
I keep hoping that by manipulating matter\energy at
the quantum level (or somehow deeper) that this can
be done, for what use I don't speculate.
The farthest I've gotten is the old maxim that living
organisms use lots of "positive entropy" to create
the small amount of "negative entropy" that we see as
order.
This is the same idea from Dorion's rant:

Complex systems arise to destroy the order around them
more efficiently than would otherwise be the case.

But I like how Roger phrases it better:

...dissipates it in little belches and farts of heat
over time. Life dissipates energy when it needs to,
it's not in a race with the abiotic world.

If there is a "Maxwell's Demon" I'm convinced that it
is buried in the depths of our apparent
conscious awareness, never to be "scientifically"
understood.
I do think that some people are capable of
"exercising" "Maxwell's Demon".
Time to call a seance!
