I am seeking creative-technical assistance on a series of eco-art-science
projects that I'm starting to work on. I thought that this list might be the place to ask. I am beginning a new, long-term series of creative works which involve environmental sensing, web mapping interaction and various sound or image display. I can learn as I go, but my programming abilities are limited, and I'd very much like to work with others with shared interest in creative approaches to complex eco-information understandings. I have just received initial funding of a small project: "Ground Truth", which will probably utilize ZigBee (SquidBee) wireless sensors, a Google Earth mapping site for public interaction, and text-to-speech output. There are many directions and applications for this project, and I expect to be able to get funding and find regional installation opportunities that address critical current eco-issues (water, climate change, etc.) If anyone on this list is interested, or knows someone who may be interested in technically helping, please be in touch with me personally. Thanks. Richard, you might try the MISP list as well. You can subscribe at www.altMediaNM.org (contact page), or if you like I'll post this on your behalf. More specifically, Eric Whitmore, the ARTSLab coordinator at UNM and a Friam lurker, might have some ideas or even a possible support role for ARTSLab or the Art/Technology Center. This sounds like a great project; keep me posted please. db On Jul 28, 2007, at 2:54 PM, Richard Lowenberg wrote: > I am seeking creative-technical assistance on a series of eco-art- > science > projects that I'm starting to work on. The visual display of real system structures and behaviors is a great
new field. I've found that the tools people are using are somewhat programming intensive however. The NetSci people are doing marvelous things and I posted some links a month or so ago on FRIAM. I'm more into the fundamental methods side of recognizing natural systems and their behaviors. See if my approach to identifying natural system 'cybernetic body parts' and 'phases of emergence' and the links to NetSci, SASO and IWSC communities from http://www.synapse9.com/PICS.htm helps. One direct application I developed recently is an energy use measure for planners and developers doing sustainable design http://www.synapse9.com/design/dollarshadow.htm which employs the 'shocking' discovery that producing $'s uses the same amount of energy all over the world to draw the big picture... Maybe that's too much all at once..., but if you like something and have some idea to test out I'd be happy to make suggestions.
