Distro, distro...

ccp

I've used every Mandrake/Mandriva since MDK 7.0, the first Linux distro
that autorecognized all my hardware. I've tried SUSE, Ubuntu/Kubuntu, but
alway return to Mandriva/KDE.

Presently using Mandriva 2006 on Athlon XP, Asus MB, 768 MB RAM. Runs like
a dream.

Tried MDV 2007, but it can't install the new Xorg. Same problem anyone?

Hope the information was useful.

Cheers,

Carlos

Carlos,

I was not able to find a site with the Mandriva 2007 DVD iso for x86_64 for
my Athlon 64 box.  Do you know if there is one?

Thanks,

Distro, distro...

Alfredo Covaleda

Yesterday I downloaded Mandriva-Free-2007 and upgraded one of my PCs from
Mandrake 2005 Spetial Edition ( I haven't slept well in two nights). It's the
first time I can upgrade Mandrake without troubles and this new current
version is running really good and all software I installed before upgrade is
running.

I continue with problems to configure my scanner. I haven't found  firmware
FlatbedScanner42. In my first try I couldn't ran ming/php used to create swf
files. It's not important but distro doesn't include the font adobe-helvetica
(my favorite font). I will continue "cacharreando" (like we say at the other
side of the wall... Hey! Teacher! Leave them kids alone!)

Alfredo,

One trick to getting php scripts to run on Mandriva is to make sure you only
have php version 5 installed.  If you have both php versions 4 & 5 installed
http gets confused.

Regarding the scanner, you might want to try kooka (/usr/bin/kooka).

Distro, distro...

Alfredo Covaleda
Douglas

In my second try ming/php works properly. Finally I unistalled all old ming
libraries. New ming libraries are not included in the distro, at least not in
the free one, but was easy to find them in couple of mirrors.  Ming libraries
require some dependencies  (two gif libraries) not included but again was
easy to find them. Kooka don't recognize the scanner... toc, toc, toc...

My next step is try to create the prosaic  "Hello Cruel World" application
with g++ using qt and kde libraries just to see if it works. If it works else
it will became my favorite distro.
