Conferencing...

e.j.cates@att.net
Hi all,

I followed up on Owen Densmore thoughts about conferencing options because I
was curious and want those who travel or based overseas to particpate.

Based on the small sample of vendors (A+, Accu-rate, Communique, Conference
Call, Glyphics, and ReadyComm) here are the findings:

o If users do not need polling or video streaming capabilities, then Internet
Presentations offers a basic package with slide, whiteboard, and
collaborative capability. Most vendors price this at $0.10/minute. ReadyComm
offered a free-30 day demo! Note: According to one vendor, if the user has
Internet Explorer, then Linux users can participate.

o The next step up is WebEx with polling and video streaming. Apparently,
WebEx web conferencing is compatible with IBM, Mac, and Linux. Most vendors
charge $0.25/minute.

o The toll-free teleconferencing is a critical component. The most
competitive rate was $0.079/minute from AccuConference.

We used WebEx at work. It was easy and quite useful for seminars and
presentations.

Using these rates, a 60-minute WebEx session 4x a month would cost $60/month.
Add in the teleconferencing at about $19/month and the grand total is about
$80/month. Of course, you don't have to do a web conference every month--
maybe just the first Friday of every month. While not free, it's not that
expensive.

Regards, Liz
