I've started reading Jane Jacob's Cities and the Wealth of Nations as
you suggested, and am finding it fascinating!
It seems to me that it is rich in opportunities for modeling. I've
just started the part where she describes "city regions", the area
frothing with new growth and synergistic activities. It would be
fascinating to "data mine" some cities to see what the development over
time was in that area, to tease out their network of interactions, and
use ABM to build such an environment.
Steve and I and several others within the Santa Fe area have just
returned from Lake Arrowhead's conference on Human Complex Systems.

"computational social scientists"! If cities really are the engines of
economies as Jane suggests, it might be interesting to make a
presentation at Lake Arrowhead next year if possible.
