Glad I missed it. I went to see Mandelbrot year before last, and
the only inspiring thing that he showed was a slide of a camera's
lens cap next to a rock, followed by another shot zoomed out that
showed that the "lens cap" was actually six feet tall, as indicated
by the guy standing next to it. Actually, a pretty effective gut
level explanation of fractals, but the rest of his talk was one of
the most monotone presentations I've seen.
