Better self phone plan deals?

Gillian Densmore
Hi all my Tmobile plan at the moment is now at least 80 dollars. (it's unlimited data FWIW) . Thinking that's pretty hefty, I've been trying to find better deals and are frustrated at the lack of I've found.

What are folks experience here?  Comcast has been in the cellphone business for a while and seems cheep BUT the phone has to be compatible with there weird stuff. AT&T is them.
Any pointers on what the fux to do to get a fuxing expensive bill to not be reemed throught the noes?
I like unlimited data because I keep needing it for the weirdest times. But this fuxing ridiculous,  to have a fuxing expensive bill with hit and miss reception. Surely there's something that doesn't suck nuts, and isn't a fuxing rip off.

I pay T-Mobile $70 for two lines, unlimited data. Call them or go to the store and negotiate.

My Google Fi (TMobile & Sprint & someothercarrier & Wifi) averaging about 45/mo.  Around 27 base with taxes, then $10/GB.  It could get up in the 80 buck range if you used a lot of data but they cap the costs (not the data) at 6GB, so I would never pay more than around $90 which is unlikely for me.   Nice international path.    There's a new GoogeFi unlimited plan that's a lot cheaper;  I may switch soon after I run the numbers.   The Pixel phones (just got a 3XL) have spiff radios that allow Fi to switch between best available signals (TMobile, Sprint, wifi) pretty seamlessly (you don't notice when it switches).    Granted, eventually Sprint and TMobile will merge, but it's still a reasonable plan.

Google Fi is a Multiple Virtual Network Operator (MVNO).  More on MVNO stuff.  https://www.engadget.com/2018/06/26/best-mvnos/

Re: Better self phone plan deals?

Steve Smith

I switched to Fi 3 years ago and am generally very happy.   I ran 1 phone for under $40 for a year and have been running 2 for under $60 for the last two.   This low price depends heavily on my using my own WiFi network for *most* usage, and one of these phones gets *very little* Web/Mail use anyway.   One month, while both of us were on the road, I think we triggered at least $50 in extra data charges... but this was perhaps because when I didn't have WiFi, I  used the  phone (over MVNO) to hotspot my laptop.

I'm generally happier with this system than I ever was with previous carriers/systems which included Verizon, TMo, ATT ...

If you (Gil) don't have WiFi at home, I'm not sure it would work out for you, or if you spend a lot of time *away* from WiFi and then demand a lot of data over your phone (streaming video)...

Oh yeh... and I was switching to a Pixel for other reasons anyway.   The second phone I got for it's compatibility with Fi was a Galaxy (I think) and was under $200 cash price.

Re: Better self phone plan deals?

Gillian Densmore
As to WiFi and my general usage. For what ever reason, getting and placing calls for me over WiFi is hit and miss. I'm in and out. More in than out with 38-40 degree weather. I go out for jogs and walks a lot when it's much  nicer out, One of the big things I love are gamefied exercise  apps. And those (seem to) use a modest amount of data, but I'll also sometimes try to find new music to go with it. To shake things up, and that'll use a a lot of data.
ComCast is hit and mis for reliability it's pretty good when it works..
Do you find you get reasonable coverage? Verizon being them is still trying to make it seem like they have better quality coverage than Tmobile, wich I seriously doubt.

Re: Better self phone plan deals?

cody dooderson
I find that Verizon is better in rural areas than Fi. In the cities I cant tell the difference. My girlfriend recently switched to Verizon pay-as-you-go service and it seems much better than constant shenanigans of her previous Verizon contract.

In other news it looks like Motorola is bringing back the flip phone, https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-50414612. Eventually, the cost should drop if there is enough demand.

ComCast is hit and mis for reliability it's pretty good when it works..
Do you find you get reasonable coverage? Verizon being them is still trying to make it seem like they have better quality coverage than Tmobile, wich I seriously doubt.

Thanks so much for that!
Squeeee! that'd be really neet (the flip phone). There's an amazing amount of things to like abount android. The fake keyboard isn't one(IMO)
Any guesses if the better coverage  in rural areas is a lots of towers thing? or what frequencies they use (from there legacy towers)?  but 1.5K? is that a typo? (i hope) as that's fucking rediciously expensive otherwise and the article says the first one will be a fucking all touchscreen phone.-_-

The casio gzone line (up to 2017 or so) was a mixture of "clever" (not really a dumb or smart phone but something in the middle. and  the reviews were great! kick ass reception, an amazing keyboard,

My Terain and ye old Treo's till kick ass for that

Thanks man!
